Is Taiwanculturally closer to Japanthan China? If not, is Taiwanthe inheritor of Chinese culture since the mainlanders do not come up to thesame cultural and religious level?
Culturally... no but Isocially and economically, yes. i say Taiwanese areculturally more to the Japanese side. Of course their history and ethinicity are allattributed to Chinese, but they are more fond of Japanese culture andproducts. You'll be amazed how much they are alike whenvisiting Taiwan. but i guess the point here is that Taiwanreally should try to find its own culture, not trying to be like some othercountries.
if youhave ever gone to taiwan, you will see that TW does have its own culture -__- young people in TW are into japanese things, andin terms of fashion, japanese things are very popular there right now. this isbecause japan invaded tw for a few years, but it was not a necessarily badinvasion, because they left a lot of culture and infrastructure behind. my auntcan speak japanese because during her time, she had to learn japanese. and ofcourse, a lot of figures in japanese media are also popular in TW. Those in China and those in TW are all"hua-ren". TW is more culturally similar to China, obviously because a lot of ppl that are in TW are there because ppl from ourgrandparents' generation moved there. so yes, the TRADITIONAL culture iscarried on. There are quite a few distinct TW foods and dishes that firstoriginated in TW, as with many cities in China(Sichuan, Shanghai, etc). People in TW speak mandarinas it is the national language, but kids learn TWnese in school too.
Culturally Taiwan has found it's own niche. It's culture is close with China, but more western economically. I'm not sure about whatmajority of Taiwanese thinks but from outsider's prospective, Taiwan is predominantly Han Chineseculture. Taiwanese speaks Mandarin not Japanese, and language is main identityof culture. I agree with snk. Most of those whoconsidered themselves to be Taiwanese (that I know personally) seem to speakMandarin.
People in Taiwanspeak chinese, just like people in China. They celebrate Chinese NewYear and the moon cake festivals and other Chinese festivals just like peoplein China.Majority of people in Taiwancan't speak Japanese just like people in China. So you tell me how arepeople in Taiwan culturallycloser to Japan??
Taiwan is closer to China then Japan. They don't celebrate anyJapanese events or holidays, but they do celebrate and follow Chinese holidaysand etc. They speak Mandarin and not Japanese. I'm Chinese and would justlike to say that tw people are like chinese people to me. Afterall they AREfrom Chinese heritage and their ancestors are CHINESE, if you look at thehistory. So it's no surprise that they celebrate and follow chinese traditions. They still struggle to find their own culture.. using mandarin doesn't helpthat cause either. Alot of TW people get pissed off when you call them chinesein north america. I find it funny that theyare so offended by that but yet they use the chinese language and follow theirtraditions.. If they want to be independent and have their own culture, theyneed to ditch "chinese" traditions and culture and language. Just my2c. just being honesthere....japanese/chinese culture are all look similar to me! even the people! KOREANS in the other hand are the most easilyrecognized, since I have a korean friend who always "brainwash" me byshowing all the K-pop things! When I see the Korean actresses...I wasamazed...wow, Does Koreaalready apply cloning tech on entertainment sector? they all look alike!
We all know you are a trollhere, but there is some element of truth in your statements...whether or not ifit was deliberate. Chinese and Japanese written language look verysimilar and many times people (including myself) cannot distinguish betweenthese two....On the other hand Answer to original question:This is an odd question to begin with. Taiwanese ARE racially Chinese, orsomewhat like it, just different nationality. And everybody knows many Chinesehave bias against the Japanese more than anyone else so I would think not.
Japanese and Chinese writtenlanguage looks the same because many Japanese words are actually in Chinese.Well, can't really say 'Japanese words' because Japanese themselves refer it askanji which is 'Han Zi' because they adapted the chinese writing during HanDynasty. Japanese have their own writing which is Hiragana and Katakana. Notreally hard to distinguish Japanese writing system with Chinese one becauseJapanese writing system is less complex.
Yeah...Chinese, Japanese andKoreans are all influenced by one another. This is another good reason why weshould learn to respect each other. respect tends to be mutual 尊重應(yīng)該是互相的 Elaborate. As much as I love Japaneseculture, Japan didn'tinfluence China. It was China influenced Japan and South Korea. definitely not. the arrivalof chiang kai-shek and the KMT doesnt help that fact either. although japaneseinfluence is sometimes very evident. Japanese letters contain aLOT of Chinese writing.....Koreaused Chinese writing long time ago. Even today in S.Korea, some important legaldocument contains a mandatory chinese letters (I saw my korean friend documentbefore (insurance)...I asked about the chinese writing on the bottom....he saidit 's mandatory (CMIIW)
