AndSuprememe Court Justice Sonya Sotamayor is an advocate of the use ofinternational law. So really, how far ofa leap is it to be concerned about the application of laws - not practices - ofsharia. That's where you are wrong. Those laws have many places in the modernworld - Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia to name a few. That is the modern world -- a worldincreasingly full of extreme religious fanaticism. Governments that take no action when fanaticskill people because some mass produced/ photocopied book is accidentallyburned.

look at the history of what has happened to societieswhere Islam has taken over. I am sorry but it is in the Islamic dominatedcountries that all the other religions and creeds disappear. Islam just cannotspread within democratic societies and have those societies remain democraticand free. Islam is a political entity that goes with its religious aspects. Itcannot coexist with the constitution in which the law is according to the ruleof law for each individual. In Islam the only law is Allah and the individualis subservient to it. This article is naive and does not understand Taquiya andthe Islamic codes that change societies from diverse to backward dhimmi's sorrybut it is you who do not understand

I enjoyed the well researched and reasonable manner inwhich the contentious rhetoric and unfounded fears are calmly addressed andallayed. It's too bad that some of those who have commented here, either didn'tread it, or lack the reading skills to understand what you, the author, haveconcisely written.

This is why theCSM is actually a citeable source that I will accept, they do research, theyaddress the issues in a professional manner, and they don't fall for theschtick put forth by politicians like Gingrich and "personalities"like Limbaugh. CSM is too smart to fall for the bullspit that the majority ofthe so-called conservatives lap up like it was ambrosia. They don't pander tothe base, they actually address the issues rationally and use FACTS. Outletslike Fox wouldn't know a fact if it gave them a free lap dance.
Since you can't wholly trust the media on the Lefteither, it's nice to have a conservative news outlet that actually hasjournalistic standards AND intelligent writers.
I'm trying to teach my stepsons how to actually beIndependents initially, and to think before they choose a specific Party(Ifthey ever do). CSM is the type of news outlet that I can point them to if theywant to find out the Conservative take on an issue without the vitriol normallyreserved for the Limbaughs, Coulters and O'Reillys of the world.

one more thing. Sharia law and the US constitution arein conflict with each other. Sharia law cannot be allowed in the US because itis in conflict with US constituional law. Just look at history look at what hashapped and understand religious freedom cannot be one sided. What happened tothe Jewish and Christian communities throughout the Middle East. They were notallowed to coexist. Every religion must accept that it is subservient to thelaw of the land secular law. Islam does not period! naive naive

A first hand account of how you are pretty much wrong:
Jews and Christianscoexisted with Muslims in the Middle East for centuries - in Egypt, they werefine until 1952, and were even capable of attaining aristocratic status. Thereare undoubtedly examples of conflict between peoples in history, but such examplesof conflict are not unique to one group. they are symptoms of the humancondition.

Khalid,I would love to agree but I cannot and remain true to history. Yes Until the50's there were Christian and Jewish communities and there are examples like inEgypt of minorities flourishing but not enough. Look at Saudi Arabia, Iraq andthroughout the Islamic world where there literally are NO Jews and Christians,Bahia's etc are almost non-existant. Don't forget that Islamic socieites taxnon Muslims and allow churches and Temples to fall into disrepair. Democracyand constitutional law cannot allow religious doctrine to dictate how oneshould live. Today the Coptics and Christians are being slaughtered in Egypt,NIgeria and throughout the Islamic world. even Mohammad himself said thatIsrael is for the Jews and although the Koran does not mention Jerusalem onetime, Muslims are trying to claim it because any area once conquered by Islammust according to Islamic thinking be returned even if the land did not belongto them in the first place, King David united Israel under the Jews with itscapital in Hebron and Jerusalem long before Islam or Arab tribes there and theRomans came up with the name Palestine no connection to Arabs or Islam. Look atIran where the beautiful zoroastrian culture was buried under the assault ofIslam and King Cyrus who wrote the firest manifesto of humanrights in Iran is now a distant memory buried under Islam. Diversity is whatmakes life beautiful not control and fear. Attaturk would turn over in hisgrave if he knew that the Islamists and taken over Turkey again and are pullingit back to backwardness. Attaturk did not want the Muslim Brotherhood tooperate in Turkwy or elsewhere. Muslims have not been allowed to learn realhistory and need to stay away from their political centers and assimilate intotheir countries of residence. Sadly the Mosques carry political functions aswell as religious which naive Americans don't understand. It is difficult toseperate as Mohammad had the mosque operate as both a religious and politicalbase
